Far-right commentator and filmmaker Matt Walsh was prominently featured — by fans — on Saturday’s broadcast of ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday a week after his latest movie hit theaters.

The show kicked off a slate of games from Norman, Oklahoma, ahead of the Sooners’ primetime game against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Oklahoma was hours away from playing its first Southeastern Conference game – one with plenty of storylines. However, Walsh’s new flick took an unexpected front seat eight days after its theatrical release.

The Daily Wire production Am I Racist? hauled in $6.4 million nationwide as of Thursday evening, according to Box Office Mojo. The film sees Walsh go undercover as a man stricken with “White guilt” in order to “expose” the supposed “absurdities” of DEI and wokeness “through undercover social experiments,” according to IMDB.

While country music singer Blake Shelton was ESPN’s celebrity guest picker, many on the right claimed Walsh stole the show:

Walsh appeared to enjoy the attention and free publicity he received on ESPN’s broadcast and shared multiple snaps of himself photobombing former Alabama coach Nick Saban and podcast host Pat McAfee:

Am I Racist? features the Daily Wire commentator posing as an anti-racist White man to trick unsuspecting activists on the left. The Hollywood Reporter said of the film:

Borrowing a page from Sacha Baron Cohen’s Da Ali G Show and Borat, the producers set up elaborate and surreptitious ruses, telling their subjects they were making a doc exploring anti-racism in America in the post-George Floyd era. And they were willing to pay handsomely; among other expenses, they gained permission to film the Race2Dinner event after writing a check for $5,000 and paid the mother of two small Black girls snubbed by a Sesame Street character at a theme park $50,000 to participate in the doc. It isn’t uncommon for experts and other subjects to be paid in such instances, but the boundaries have loosened in the era of streaming and the endless demand for nonfiction content.

Their tactics have worked to create a surprise hit.
