Chris Cuomo Laughs Right in Steve Cortes’ Face For Defending Trump: ‘That’s Not Problematic, That’s a Lie!’
Pro-Trump CNN contributor Steve Cortes elicited derisive laughter when he was confronted with one of Donald Trump‘s lies, and called it “problematic.”
On Tuesday night’s edition of CNN’s Cuomo PrimeTime, host Chris Cuomo led a debate segment between Cortez and Symone Sanders, during which Cortes decided to die on the hill of Trump’s eight thousand-plus lies.
“Both of you just said that the president is a habitual liar as if that’s a matter of established fact,” Cortes said, “and I’m going to push back on that.”
“If you look for example the Washington Post constantly talks about this many thousand count lie total, this lie-o-meter, many of them are hyperbole and jokes, and most of them are opinions.”
Fact check: most of them are not opinion.
“So I’ll take issue with the fact that the president lies habitually…” Cortes continued.
“He said he didn’t know anything about the payments to the women,” Cuomo interrupted.
“…to establish that as a premise, I think, is false,” Cortes said.
“He said he didn’t know anything about the payments to the women,” Cuomo repeated.
“That’s problematic, for sure,” a smirking Cortes conceded.
Cuomo and Sanders laughed at Cortes, and Cuomo said “That’s not problematic, that’s a lie!”
The Washington Post has tracked over 8,000 false or misleading statements, while The Toronto Star’s Daniel Dale has documented over four thousand pure factual falsehoods since Trump took office.
