Giuliani Points Fingers at Mueller Team for Putting Out McGahn Story: They are ‘Panicking’
Speaking with Judge Jeanine Pirro on Saturday night, Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani pointed fingers at the Mueller team for putting out the story about White House Counsel Don McGahn because, in his estimation, they are “panicking.”
Giuliani’s remarks come during a conversation about a New York Times piece, published earlier today, that claimed that McGahn was concerned that Trump would make him the scapegoat.
“Who would plant a story or a suggestion or create an effort to legitimize a claim that McGhan is trying to take the fall?” Pirro asked Trump’s lawyer. “Does it tell you…that the New York Times is making stuff up and is fake news? Does it tell you that Mueller is starting to panic and starting to get McGahn to work with him? Telling him, look, the president is teeing you up for a fall?”
Giuliani replied that “the best analysis would be that the Mueller team is panicking. They know they don’t have a case. There was no collusion, there was no obstruction.”
He then suggested that perhaps it was Mueller’s team who had put out the story, in order to get Trump to testify.
“They can’t prove it, and they are trying to get the president to testify,” Giuliani continued on. “And they are hoping that if they put out a story like this in which they suggest that McGhan is cooperating against him, but don’t say it…that he’ll want to come in and explain himself. The president wants to testify. The president wants to be open and transparent. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have encouraged 30 witnesses, including McGhan to testify.”
Earlier today, Trump likewise tweeted out he has been the “most transparent in history.”
I allowed White House Counsel Don McGahn, and all other requested members of the White House Staff, to fully cooperate with the Special Counsel. In addition we readily gave over one million pages of documents. Most transparent in history. No Collusion, No Obstruction. Witch Hunt!
