Josh Mandel Invokes MLK to Decry Critical Race Theory

Bernice King called out Republican candidate Josh Mandel for invoking her father, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., to denounce critical race theory.

Mandel, running for Senate in Ohio, recently said that people who want to teach critical race theory in schools are “stomping on the grave of Martin Luther King.”

“Martin Luther King once said that he had a dream that his grandkids would be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character,” he said. “But what you have going on in the government schools by these liberals and the media, by the secular left, by the radical left, they’re trying to make everything about skin color.”

King responded by tweeting at Mandel that he should study her father’s teachings “in full and in context.”

“Don’t use my father or his grave to increase fear regarding CRT,” she continued. “My father’s words and teachings should bolster our courage to eradicate racism, beginning at its roots.”

Mandel doubled down in response and called her a “race politics profiteer.”

King reiterated, “As long as we fail to understand how racism harmed us then and hurts us still, we can’t arrive at true peace.”

Martin Luther King III also weighed in and said, “CRT doesn’t seek to divide. It seeks to teach our nation’s founding and history. It provides a window to the past so that we can open a door to a better future for all.”

Mandel accused him of “doing a horrible disservice to children and to your father’s legacy” and called critical race theory “the real virus facing our nation.”
