Arguably the most stunning live broadcast moment of the year took place Friday on The View — and social media instantly lit up, as a result.

During the second segment of the telecast, co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro were pulled off the air without explanation. Forty seconds of confusion ensued, before Joy Behar abruptly took the show to break.

“As we always do in television when we’re in a tight spot, we’ll be right back,” Behar said.

When the program resumed, Behar and Sara Haines — seated by themselves at a strikingly empty-looking roundtable — explained that Hostin and Navarro tested positive for Covid-19.

“This is going to be a major news story any minute now,” Behar predicted — as she made the announcement.

She was right.

Observers on Twitter who were watching were shocked — with some criticizing the show for not having the testing issue sorted before going to air, and others more broadly remarking on the jaw dropping scene:

Really unprofessional and disrespectful how the Stage Manager handled this. First he treats Sunny and Ana like misbehaving school kids, saying “the two of you”, not even using their names. Then he lies and says “we’ll bring you back later, it’s a tease”. Very unfair to Joy, too.
