Bryson DeChambeau Strikes Spectator with Massive Tee Shot During First Ryder Cup Swing
The crowd was ready for Bryson DeChambeau to flex his muscle and hit a bomb off the tee for his first Ryder Cup swing. They roared when the heavy hitter reached for his driver, but they cringed as he sent a massive tee shot sailing into a crowd of spectators.
During his first tee shot of the 2020 Ryder Cup, which was postponed to 2021 because of Covid, DeChambeau unleashed a drive to the left of the green on the par-4 first hole at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, the big swing crashed into a woman’s ankle.
The famed golfer known for hating any semblance of fan hostility, likely didn’t earn many admirers for the gaffe. Perhaps someone from the crowd yelled “Brooksie,” before the tee shot – a chant that really irks DeChambeau, and can get fans banned as they look to fuel his feud with fellow golf star Brooks Koepka.
While it’s possible the crowd’s roar overpowered DeChambeau, the 28-year-old American golfer couldn’t be heard yelling “fore” on the broadcast, eliminating the chance for spectators to take cover.
DeChambeau did end up recovering from the tee shot, making birdie on the hole. And he made up with the woman, giving her a signed ball as an apology.
