Biden Kicks Off The Holiday Telling Reporters He’s Done Taking Questions on Afghanistan: ‘Look, It’s 4th of July’
President Joe Biden kicked off the holiday weekend on Friday by telling reporters to stop asking him about Afghanistan.
The questions coincided with American troops leaving Afghanistan’s Bagram Air Base for the first time since the War on Terror began in 2001. Biden called on a reporter at a press conference Friday morning who said he had a question about Afghanistan, to which Biden responded, “I want to know about happy things, man.” But the reporter persisted, asking whether the U.S. would still have the military capability to assist Kabul against potential threats on short notice.
Furrowing his brow, Biden briefly said the U.S. could offer “value added,” but that the Afghans “are going to have to do it themselves.”
Apparently unsatisfied, another reporter could be heard shouting they she also had a question about Afghanistan. Interjecting, Biden said, “I’m not going to answer anymore quick questions about Afghanistan. Look, it’s Fourth of July. I’m concerned that you guys are asking me questions that I’ll answer next week, but this is a holiday weekend, and I’m going to celebrate it. There are great things happening.”
