Will Smith is exploring the Fourteenth Amendment for Netflix.

The streaming service announced Tuesday that it will debut a six-part docuseries titled Amend: The Fight for America, which Smith will host and produce.

Each hour-long episode of the show will tackle the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which promises “liberty and equal protection for all persons.”

The series will feature a “groundbreaking narrative format,” according to a press release, which includes celebrities reciting speeches and writings from the Fourteenth Amendment’s advocates and detractors.

Samuel L. Jackson, Mahershala Ali, Diane Lane, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Sterling K. Brown are among the stars who will deliver the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Frederick Douglass, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Andrew Johnson, and more figures of American history.

Netflix described the show as “a powerful, multimedia journey through American history that encourages viewers to question what a ‘United States’ really means.”

Former Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore serves as an executive producer.

“We are living in unprecedented days as a society, as a country, and as a human family,” Smith said in a statement. “I believe that the cultivation of personal and historical understanding is the imperative spark igniting the flames of desperately needed compassion and healing.”

The actor continued, “As Americans, we endeavor to form a more perfect union that truly establishes justice and equality for all. I believe a deeper understanding of the 14th Amendment is a critical jumping off point.”

Smith went on to say that the aim of the series “is to illuminate the beauty that is the promise of America and to share a message of connection and shared humanity so that we will be able to better understand and celebrate our different experiences as Americans and promote progress toward the true equality promised to all persons under the 14th amendment.”
