Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) will not challenge Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) but a new poll shows he might have success if he were to challenge the incumbent.

According to a Quinnipiac poll released Thursday, the race would be a dead heat — if Texas voters hit the polls today. O’Rourke, according to the survey, holds significant popularity with young voters, as well as with black and Hispanic voters.

But his prospects for winning the Democratic nomination for President are also promising. According to a Des Moines Register poll, O’Rourke follows slightly behind former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in popularity when it comes to Democrats’ 2020 presidential nominee.
