‘Don’t Talk Over Me!’ Fox Contributor Ben Domenech Steamrolls Fellow Panelist to Make a Wildly Incorrect Claim About Trump’s Poll Numbers
Fox News contributor Ben Domenech clashed with Democratic strategist Leslie Marshall during a tense exchange over immigration on Sunday’s edition of Media Buzz.
The duo’s argument centered around President Donald Trump’s immigration approval ratings as he passes the 100-day mark of his second term.
Domenech claimed Trump was performing well on immigration in the polls, but the claim is not supported by any recent surveys.
Host Howard Kurtz opened the discussion by acknowledging Trump’s low polling numbers.
“Trump is down in the polls, and no, they’re not fake, and there’s a lot of them,” Kurtz said.
Marshall said Trump was underwater with Americans on a number of issues she said would linger even if he were able to turn the economy around.
Domenech responded by defending Trump on immigration and deportations.
“You cited the president’s deportation policies,” he said. “That’s literally, in almost every poll, the most popular thing that he’s doing.”
Marshall replied, “If I am not with the majority of Americans, the majority of the polls would not be in agreement with me, which they are.”
“No, you’re wrong,” he replied. “There’s not a single poll where he’s underwater on the immigration issue.”
Marshall attempted to bring up Latino voters’ views, but Domenech interrupted her.
“You are not going to lecture the Latino member of this panel on this and say that you know what the Latino community is saying about this! You are dead wrong!” he said. “Don’t talk over me! You don’t know what you’re talking about, okay?” That’s just crap!”
Marshall tried to explain that in her view, some Hispanic voters supported Trump’s vow to deport criminal migrants but did not expect the policies to affect families in their own communities.
But recent polling showed Domenech’s claim to be wildly incorrect. A CBS News poll found 51% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of immigration, while 49% approve. The gap was even wider in the most recent Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll conducted April 18-22 — which found Trump at 46% approval versus 53% disapproval on immigration. The AP had a similar finding, with a 46-53 split against Trump. CNN came in at 45-54, with the majority disapproving of Trump’s handling of immigration. And even a Fox News poll conducted April 18 to 21 found Trump with 47% approval and 48% disapproval on the issue.
