Charlamagne tha God Ponders Whether Walz Was ‘Garbage’ VP Pick For Harris: ‘Need White Man That Excites Other White People’
Radio host Charlamagne tha God questioned Vice President Kamala Harris’s decision to tap Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate on Friday.
On The Breakfast Club, the host said Walz’s job is to attract White voters Harris will need to defeat former President Donald Trump on Nov. 5 but questioned if the governor was the right “White person” to help Democrats build a winning coalition.
After being informed of Harris’s weekend itinerary, Charlamagne replied, “The rest of ya’ll getting Tim Walz.”
Paraphrasing the song “Takeover,” Charlamagne asked, “What did Jay-Z say? He had a spark when he started, but now he’s just garbage?”
“I don’t think he’s garbage, you know what I’m saying? But it’s just like, I don’t see the impact,” he added.
Co-host Loren LoRosa replied of Walz, “He be chilling.”
Charlamagne replied, “We don’t need that now. We don’t need you chillin’ Walz. Okay, we need you on the front lines, okay? You need a White man that excites other White people. I don’t know if he’s that White person that’s doing that, is he?”
Walz has been forced to defend a number of embellishments of his record since he was selected as Harris’s running mate over a number of other contenders on Aug. 6. His debate performance against Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance last month also underwhelmed many Democrats.
A day after Harris announced Walz as her running mate, Mark Thiessen called the decision her “first unforced error” in a piece he wrote for The Washington Post. Thiessen wrote:
In choosing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris made her first unforced error as the Democratic nominee, giving Donald Trump a huge opening with swing voters. The question is: Will he seize it?
Harris is the most radically left-wing presidential nominee in modern times, so many expected her to try to balance her ticket by choosing a centrist like Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro — a popular governor with 61 percent approval in a must-win swing state. If she had done so, she could have put Trump on his heels in the Keystone State and sent a message to the country that she would govern from the center, not the far left.
