CNN’s Toobin: Gaetz Tweet Is ‘Total Gangster Stuff,’ But Trump’s Clearly ‘Tweeted Worse Things’ About Cohen
CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin tonight called Congressman Matt Gaetz‘s tweet threatening Michael Cohen “total gangster stuff,” but he added President Donald Trump has done worse.
To recap, Gaetz has insisted that the threatening tweet he sent to Cohen was meant to be “witness testing, not witness tampering.”
Hey @MichaelCohen212 – Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison. She’s about to learn a lot…

Toobin said tonight it’s clearly a threat, but added, “The problem with pursuing that in some sort of law enforcement context is that the president has tweeted worse things about Michael Cohen. He’s threatened Michael Cohen’s father-in-law with prosecution. And whatever else you think of Gaetz, the congressman, he’s not in charge of the Justice Department. The president is in charge of the Justice Department and has threatened Cohen’s father-in-law with prosecution.”
He said at the very least the House Ethics Committee can look into Gaetz’s tweet.
Gloria Borger, meanwhile, raised the question of how exactly Gaetz got the information he was alluding to in the tweet in the first place.
