Terry McAuliffe Calls Trump ‘Angry, Emotional, Unstable’ — Adds He is ‘Looking at’ 2020 Run
Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe declared that he is “looking” into a 2020 presidential run during a CNN interview today, in which the Democrat lambasted President Donald Trump as an “angry, unstable man.”
While discussing the on-going government shutdown on State of the Union, McAuliffe argued that Democrats shouldn’t compromise with Trump to get Washington running again.
“The Democrats should not give an inch on this. Donald Trump owns this. He has been in the White House. He has been isolated. He is too emotional. He is too unstable,” he said. “He has now forced people to go through the holidays without a paycheck. Contrary to what some Republicans believe, people need that paycheck, not only for gifts for the holiday season, for putting food on the table”
McAuliffe continued: “Because of his tricks and Republican radio hosts pushing him — challenging his manhood — he has caused so many problems for so many people in this country. He is an angry, emotional, unstable man sitting in the White House.”
CNN host Dana Bash responded by asking if McAuliffe’s tirade against Trump to ask is his “campaign speech for 2020.”
“I’m not going to announce right now. I’m obviously looking at it. I’ve got time,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of great relationships. I have 40 years of working for this party. I have plenty of friends in many states, so I don’t have to rush into this.”
The Democrat concluded the segment by outlining his case to become the party nominee in 2020.
“[Voters want] someone who is compulsively optimistic and realistic,” McAuliffe argued. “And the Democrats have to lay out an agenda of success, of what we plan to do.”
“People want politicians to get results,” he added. “That’s why I think governors are always important. We have to balance budgets. We have to build roads. We have to clean the roads. We have to fund education. Very results-oriented.”
