During an interview with ABC’s This Week on Sunday, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries said Democrats are not willing to waste billions in taxpayer money because President Donald Trump decided to hold the American people “hostage” with his border wall demands.

“Yes, we need comprehensive immigration reform. Yes, we need to enhance border security,” Jeffries said.

He then said that Democrats were only willing to go so far, especially when it comes to funding an “ineffective wall” that is a 5th-century solution.

“We are not willing to pay $2.5 billion or $5 billion and wasting taxpayer dollars on a ransom note because Donald Trump decided that he was going to shut down the government and hold the American people hostage,” Jeffries continued on.

He added: “That’s unreasonable.”
