Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) told comic and political pundit Bill Maher that President Donald Trump is “a racist” who prefers White migrants and disfavors Black and Brown people coming to America.

On Friday night’s edition of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, the interview guest was Barry Diller, co-founder of Fox Broadcasting, chairman and senior executive of IAC and Expedia Group, and author of the book “Who Knew.”

The panel guests were Jake Tapper, anchor of CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper” and co-author of “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again”; and Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA).

During the show’s “Overtime” segment, Moulton went off on Trump, and called him racist for his use of the absurd claim that White South African “Afrikaners” are victims of “genocide” as a way to justify accepting them as refugees while turning away other groups:

BILL MAHER: What does the panel think of the Supreme Court ruling that the Trump administration can revoke legal status for 500,000 immigrants who have been granted parole for human parole. That’s a strange word for that for humanitarian reasons.

What they’re talking about is 500,00 people that the Biden administration let in from I think Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti. And Afghanistan. And Venezuela.

REP. SETH MOULTON: Well, but also– from Afghanistan, for people who risked their lives, not just for Afghanistan, but for the United States of America, who served all… I would not be here today if not for the translators that I had in Iraq. I’m sure. They saved our lives more than once. And that’s why veterans are so pissed off about this, because we’ve fought like hell to get them out of Afghanistan, and now Trump wants to just send them back home to that murderous regime where they’ll be killed.

And it’s not just in Afghanistan, but that just shows how morally corrupt he is. And now look, let’s be honest, he’s a racist! He doesn’t like Black or brown people coming into the United States. White Afrikaners, sure. Roll out the red carpet. But Black or Brown people? Nope not allowed

JAKE TAPPER: The way that the U.S. Has treated the Afghan allies not just now but also at right after the collapse of of Kabul in August twenty twenty one it’s it’s not just a disgrace and it’s not just the violation of a promise that was made to these people. It’s also bad thinking because we will be less likely as a country next time we have one of these forays into foreign policy abroad. We’ll be less likely to have people who will help us in whatever country it is because they will know that we didn’t honor our promises last time.

REP. SETH MOULTON: I remember one of these conversations really well, where my translator showed up for work and he said, I can’t work for you anymore. My family’s been threatened, they’re gonna kill everybody at home.

And I had to make the case to him that we’re the United States of America, we’ve got your back. And he bravely kept working for us. And I fought like hell to get him to America. He’s worried he might get sent by

BILL MAHER: Well, we don’t have a great history of sticking by our promises.

JAKE TAPPER: No, same happened in Vietnam.

BILL MAHER: And the Kurds. Remember the Kurd’s? Promised them a lot?

REP. SETH MOULTON: Yeah, although, to be fair, we took In a lot of Vietnamese refugees, and they’re around Northern Virginia today, and they’re great contributors to our society. I mean, let’s also not forget what immigrants do. I mean immigrants founded Google, eBay, right? I mean they’re great contributors our economy, to our our society, we are a country of immigrants.

Podcaster Joe Rogan called USAID a “money laundering operation,” but admitted in a discussion with rock legend Bono that President Donald Trump’s cuts may have been too hasty.

The U2 frontman and humanitarian joined Rogan on The Joe Rogan Experience this week and the pair debated some of Trump’s drastic spending cuts, including effectively shuttering USAID. Bono, a musician and activist, referenced a report suggesting that humanitarian programs being cut through USAID have led to 300,000 deaths around the world.

He appeared to be referencing a study from Boston University infectious disease mathematical modeler Brooke Nichols, who argued that most of those deaths would be children.

Bono said:

It’s not proven, but there’s surveillance enough to suggest 300,000 people have already died from just this cut off, this hard cut of USAID. So there’s food rotting in boats, in warehouses. There is, this will fuck you off, this will not, you will not be happy, no American will, but there is, I think it’s 50,000 tons of food that are stored in Djibouti, South Africa, Dubai, and wait for it, Houston, Texas. And that is rotting rather than going to Gaza, rather than to Sudan, because the people who know the codes for the warehouse are fired, they’re gone. And so this, I don’t know, I just, what do you think, what is that? That’s not America, is it?

Rogan said the Trump administration is “throwing the baby out with the bath water,” but he argued USAID’s distribution of funds was not closely watched enough.

“The problem is, for sure, there have been a lot of organizations that do tremendous good all throughout the world. Also for sure it was a money laundering operation. For sure there was no oversight. For sure billions of dollars are missing,” he said.

Rogan did admit that Trump’s USAID cuts were too hasty, chalking it up to the administration trying to do as much they can before the midterms.

The podcaster explained:

The whole thing is there’s a lot of fraud, a lot of money laundering, but also, we help the world. And when you’re talking about making wells for people in the Congo to get fresh water, when you talk about food and medicine to places that don’t have access, like, no way that should have been cut out. And that should’ve been clear before they make these radical cuts. Like, there’s got to be a way to keep aid and not have fraud. And you can’t say we’re gonna kill everything so that there’s no fraud. But then you’re killing all the good and you’re doing it without letting anybody know it’s gonna happen.

Bono argued that the United States’ humanitarian efforts are necessary and what the rest of the world looks to them for.

“I mean If it’s big government or whatever, people wanna shrink, I get the instinct, but this, the life-saving part, it’s like the little finger of the giant,” he said.

Michelle Obama ignited outrage in her critics by declaring on her podcast that producing life is the “least” of what a woman’s “reproductive system” is for.

On her IMO podcast, the former first lady discussed male lawmakers and religious leaders being disconnected from what women go through in producing life.

“It still affects the way a lot of male lawmakers, a lot of male politicians, a lot of male religious leaders, think about the issue of choice as if it’s just about the fetus,” she said, arguing women’s overall health has not been studied properly because medicine has been male-dominated for so long.

Obama added:

Women’s reproductive health is about our life. It’s about this whole complicated reproductive system that does — the least of what it does is produce life. It’s a very important thing that it does. But you only produce life if the machine that’s producing it, if you want to, you know, whittle us down to a machine, if the machine is functioning in a healthy, streamlined kind of way. But there is no discussion or apparent connection between the two.

Conservatives were quick to blast Obama, with some arguing she is downplaying motherhood while others were even more incensed and labeled her “beyond evil.”

Kevin O’Leary pushed back on President Donald Trump’s ban on foreign students at Harvard during an appearance on Fox News Friday, calling the policy “stupid.”

O’Leary sat in for Friday’s edition of Outnumbered and took a moment to praise Harvard and its curation of foreign students. The Shark Tank investor disclosed that he is also a teacher at Harvard and has had positive experiences with foreign students.

“Obviously the lightning rod right now is Harvard and I must disclose I teach there as an executive fellow. I will say one thing though in all of this debate. They curate remarkable students from all around the world. They don’t care if they’re religion or geography or race. They just try and find the top 900 they can find,” O’Leary said.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem recently terminated Harvard’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification, accusing the school of “fostering violence, antisemitism, and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party,” a move that was blocked by a federal judge. The school accused the administration of trying to “erase” a large portion of the student body, while Trump has continued to rail against the school. At a recent White House presser, the president suggested Harvard students can’t add two plus two, citing a remedial math program Harvard put in place after Covid-19.

“I met them myself, 37% of the class I’m teaching is from foreign countries,” O’Leary said on Friday. “They don’t want to leave America. They don’t hate America. They want to get a passport, stay here, and start a business. And I think I’m one of the lone voices pointing that out. Why would we want to take the brightest and smartest people on Earth and kick them out of the country after we spend millions teaching them? It seems stupid to me.”

O’Leary acknowledged there are “other things” Harvard is taking “heat” for, but their foreign students should not be one of them.

“Harvard’s taken a lot of heat for other stuff, but they shouldn’t be taking heat for curating amazing cohorts,” he said. “These kids are amazing, and we gotta keep them here.”

At $54.99, you probably don’t expect much from a laptop, but this refurbished Lenovo 100e Chromebook (2nd Gen, 2019) might surprise you. It’s not fast, it’s not flashy, and it only has 16GB of eMMC storage, but it’s the kind of machine that can take a beating and still show up to work the next day. Built for classrooms and chaos, it has reinforced edges, spill-resistant keys, and rubber bumpers that make it more forgiving than most laptops you’ll find in this price range. It’s also listed in Grade “A” condition, so you’re getting a laptop that should look close to new.

Performance-wise, it’s basic. There’s a MediaTek processor inside with 4GB of RAM—enough for browsing, Google Docs, streaming, or online classes, but not much more. Don’t expect to run 20 tabs or multitask like a maniac. What you do get is a surprisingly solid 11.6-inch display with anti-glare coating, a webcam that’s fine for video calls, and a battery that lasts around 10 hours. Chrome OS is light and easy to use, especially if you’re already living in the Google ecosystem. And the machine itself is lightweight and compact, making it a decent travel companion or a starter laptop for kids.

Of course, there are trade-offs. Storage is tight—you’ll need to rely on Google Drive or plug in an SD card if you want to keep anything local. The charger uses USB-C, which is convenient, but there’s only one of those ports alongside a single USB-A and HDMI. No Ethernet, no touchscreen, no premium features. Still, for under $60 with free shipping, it’s hard to argue. Whether you need a backup device, something to toss in a backpack without worry, or a no-frills option for schoolwork and emails, this budget Lenovo Chromebook keeps things simple.

Unless you've messed with your smartphone's camera settings, it's very likely you snap photos in 3:4 (or 4:3 if you're holding the phone in landscape). This aspect ratio is the default for most smartphone cameras, which means our photo libraries are full of images that all fit this frame.

The issue is, despite the smartphone's place as the world's most popular camera, not all social media platforms respect the 3:4 aspect ratio. Instagram, for example, supports its classic square 1:1 images, as well as a 4:5 aspect ratio, but not 3:4. At first glance, 4:5 looks like 3:4—so much so, you might not have ever noticed a difference when uploading your photos. But rest assured, a 3:4 photo uploaded to Instagram's 4:5 aspect ratio gets cropped to match that frame, which means you lose a little of the top and bottom of each photo you post this way.

If you pinch on the preview of your post to zoom out, you'll reveal the parts of your image that aren't making the final cut. You can move the image up or down to reveal more of the top or bottom, but you'll only cut off more of the opposite end either way.

Instagram now supports 3:4 images

Luckily, that's now changing. In a post on Threads, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, announced that the app now supports 3:4 uploads. The reception seems largely positive, though some users clearly want more from Instagram—namely, 2:3 support, a popular aspect ratio with photographers.

Instagram also announced the news on its Creator's Broadcast Channel. The post confirms the change applies to both single-photo posts as well as carousel collections, and that you can still share 1:1 and 4:5 images as you wish. The company attached an example, comparing two different Instagram posts—one that posts an image in 4:5, and another that posts the same image in 3:4, with dotted lines demonstrating where the image would be cropped in 4:5.

The change is rolling out now for all Instagram users, but you might not see it right away. My Instagram app still appears to default to 4:5, even after I updated to the latest version on iOS.

It's important to note that 4:3 images, as well as other landscape or horizontal aspect ratios, have been supported on Instagram. In theory, you could've flipped your 3:4 images to post the full picture, but you would have forced your friends to turn their phones (or heads) sideways to see it.

You just set up your brand new Mac and are about to scroll through a long document. You press the middle button on your mouse, expecting to be able to scroll by moving your cursor the way you can on Windows or Linux. Nothing happens. What gives?

It turns out macOS doesn't support this feature, sometimes called auto scrolling. There are all kinds of little annoyances when you switch from one operating system to another, even if you prefer the operating system you're switching to. This is an example of that but, as usual, there's an application you can install to get things working the way you expect.

Scrollapp is a free and open-source application that does one thing: Add the fast scrolling feature to your Mac. This simple application can be downloaded from the website and installed by dragging it to your Applications folder. You might see a security warning after trying to run it—you'll have to head to Security and Privacy in the Settings app to enable the application. After you do that, you'll see Scrollapp running in the menu bar, as seen above.

After that, you should be able to scroll the way you did on Windows—just click the middle button and move your mouse. You can also enable the feature from the menu bar—just click the Start/Stop Auto-Scroll option—or by pressing the Control key and scrolling a little. That last option is great for trackpads.

The speed of scrolling depends on how far your cursor moves from the starting point, meaning you can scroll more quickly by moving your cursor farther. It's a great way to power through a long document when you're looking for something specific.

Disabling the auto scrolling is simple: Just click the left mouse button, or click the middle button again.

Arc, the much-hyped privacy-forward internet browser, won't be getting any more new features. This fact was announced months ago by its developer, The Browser Company, and clarified yesterday in a blog post in which the venture capital-backed entity that built Arc announced plans to focus on an as yet unreleased AI-based browser instead.

For now, Arc will still be getting security updates, most of them inherited from the open-source Chromium project, but it's understandable that some dedicated Arc users may be looking for an alternative, and I know of a good one: the open source Zen Browser, currently in beta.

Zen is beautiful in the same way Arc is, with its elegant vertical tabs located on the left side. Like Arc, it supports multiple workspaces and offers a compact mode with no toolbars or tabs. It also offers theming, split view, and link previews. Even better, it's built on the same browser engine as Firefox—and not Chromium—meaning it supports legitimate ad and privacy blockers like uBlock Origin.

One Arc feature Zen lacks is any kind of AI integration; whether that's a downside or an upside will depend on your feelings about AI in your browsing experience.

How to get started with the Zen Browser

When you install Zen it will offer to import your bookmarks, history, and even your passwords from another browser on your system. It then ask you to choose a color scheme, and select the key tabs you'd like to pin to the top of your workspaces(). After that you can start browsing the internet, just the way you're used to.

Arc users won't need to adjust much when switching to Zen—I daresay everything will feel pretty familiar. (I personally appreciate that it shares the the command bar approach to typing addresses or searching, as it saves space when compared to an address bar that's constantly taking up space whether you're typing into it or not.)

There are a couple of ways to customize Zen. In the settings you can choose between a single, multiple, or collapsed toolbar. If you want more fine tuning, there are Zen Mods, community-made plugins that let you customize all sorts of things about the user interface. More importantly, the browser offers full support for Firefox extensions, meaning you can also browse the Firefox Extensions gallery and install anything you want.

The bottom line: Zen is a clean, speedy alternative browser. If you like Firefox but hate its UI, I recommend checking it out, and the same goes for anyone seeking an alternative to Arc that is still actively being developed.

It's not easy to maintain your privacy when using technology today. That's largely the fault of companies who prioritize data collection over the integrity of their users. But even though I'm quite used to the lack of respect most companies pay towards my privacy and security, I have to admit, I'm a bit taken aback by T-Mobile's latest decision.

T-Life, T-Mobile's tech support app, has a rather unconventional and unnerving feature. For some users, it appears T-Life can record your screen whenever you have the app open. This setting is quite hidden, and worse, enabled by default. Who signed off on this?

How T-Life's screen recording works

Thankfully, the privacy and security implications aren't quite as bad as the headlines make it seem. T-Mobile says the feature is strictly for T-Life tech support—not for spying. As a T-Mobile spokesperson told CNET, "To help us give customers who use T-Life a smoother experience, we are rolling out a new tool in the app that will help us quickly troubleshoot reported or detected issues. This tool records activities within the app only and does not see or access any personal information."

Still, this explanation doesn't excuse quietly enabling in-app screen recording for customers without their knowledge. I have no issue with a company like T-Mobile offering tools that aid tech support when all parties are willing and able, but as CNET points out, the app already has such a feature called "Screen Share" under Help & support. Seems redundant to have a separate "screen recording" setting that serves a similar purpose—especially when it appears the company wasn't planning on telling people about it before the news broke.

When you do take a look at the setting in the T-Life app, you'll see the following description: "We use a tool to record how customers use the app to analyze and improve your experience. Only T-Mobile will review and analyze your info. If you turn this toggle on or magenta, we will record your screen while you use the app. If you turn this toggle off or gray, we will not record your screen." Yikes.

How to disable T-Life's screen recording

To disable the feature, open T-Life, then head to Settings > Preferences. Here, you'll see Screen recording tool, where you can disable the setting. (You'll know it's off if it turns gray.)

If you don't see the setting, you might not be affected. T-Life hasn't rolled out this feature to all users yet, so it is possible the app isn't screen recording for you at this time. Reports say T-Mobile has rolled this out to iPhone and Android users alike, so don't assume you're safe because you use one platform or the other.

The Steam Deck changed the game for PC players, opening up a world of portability that was usually reserved for Nintendo fans. Naturally, manufacturers tried to follow suit with Windows-based handhelds and the results are, shall we say, mixed. Now, Valve has released official instructions for installing its SteamOS on devices other than the Steam Deck. Let's dive into how to do it—and whether you should.

I should note up front: This is going to be a nebulous area when it comes to official support from the company that made your handheld. At time of writing, the Lenovo Legion Go S is the only handheld with the "Powered by SteamOS" branding (besides the Steam Deck itself), meaning it's officially supported with a final build. You can install SteamOS on devices like the Legion Go and the ROG Ally, but their support isn't final.

Also, it should go without saying, but we'll say it anyway: If you wipe Windows from your handheld, you won't be able to play Windows-based games that aren't supported via SteamOS. That largely consists of online games that require anti-cheat software, but it's worth checking sites like ProtonDB to make sure your favorite games will work on SteamOS.

Why should you install SteamOS on your Windows handheld?

So, with the caveats out of the way, what are the upsides? Put (overly) simply, Windows is not designed for handhelds. In fact, under the hood, Windows tends to see your gaming handheld as a laptop. Right down to including things like Microsoft Teams that run in the background, or popping up alert boxes that interrupt your game to inform you of a low battery.

Now that people are able to experiment with SteamOS and Windows on the same hardware, it's becoming clearer that Windows itself is a massive nerf to both frame rate and battery life. Even gaming laptops, which can often last all day for normal work, can struggle to get even a few hours of gameplay while away from a charger. That's why it's so important to tweak your settings for the best battery life.

Gaming handhelds only make this problem worse with a smaller form factor, and thus a smaller battery. In my own experience, I've struggled to get two hours of playing a lightweight game like Stardew Valley from a Windows handheld, while the Steam Deck and even the Switch can get upwards of six hours or more.

Since Windows is primarily designed as a desktop (and secondarily as a tablet) computer, it's also harder to tweak settings using controller inputs. What, exactly, is the controller equivalent of Ctrl+Alt+Delete again? While you can plug in a keyboard to dig around in your handheld's settings, it's just easier to do on SteamOS, since its interface has been built from the ground up for controller input.

At this point, Valve has also shown that running Steam games via the Proton compatibility layer works so well that it's almost seamless. I admit, when the Steam Deck was first announced, I expected games to be broken or perform much worse than their native Windows counterparts. Four hundred hours in Hades II later, though, and it's clear that many games can actually run better on SteamOS than Windows.

Step 1: Download and prepare a SteamOS recovery image USB stick

With all that out of the way, let's get started. To install SteamOS on your gaming handheld, you'll need two things: the SteamOS recovery image and a USB stick (preferably USB-C) with at least 8GB of storage. Make sure anything on that USB stick is properly backed up, because this process will reformat that device.

The Steam Deck recovery image can be found here. It's a little over 3GB, so it might take a little while to download, depending on your connection. While you wait for that, you'll also need a utility to create the recovery USB drive. Valve recommends Rufus for Windows users, and Balena Etcher for Mac or Linux users. 

Once the recovery image is downloaded, use whichever tool you chose to write the recovery image to your USB drive. This process should be relatively straightforward. Rufus, for example, will present you with a dropdown to select which drive to write the file to under Device, and under Boot Selection, click Select to pick the recovery image file. Click Start and wait. Reminder: This will wipe the contents of your USB drive.

Step 2: Disable Secure Boot on your handheld

This part can be a bit tricky, and the exact process will vary depending on which handheld you own. Valve has a breakdown of the steps here for a couple specific devices, like the Legion Go and the ROG Ally. However, other devices like those from MSI or Ayaneo will have their own process.

In general, the steps will usually go something like this:

• Reboot to the bios. Similar to how you can hold Del or F2 on a computer while rebooting to get to the bios, your gaming handheld has a similar process. Often it's holding a button like Volume + while pressing the power button, but check your specific device's instructions if that doesn't work.

• Navigate to the Secure Boot settings. You may have to poke around for this one. Look for categories like Security, and you may need to switch to an Advanced settings mode or menu to find it. This setting should be called Secure Boot. Change this to Disabled.

• Save settings and restart your device. Once you've changed the Secure Boot setting, make sure to save the changes to your bios and restart.

Depending on the device, you might have to use the touchscreen to navigate the bios, or even plug in a keyboard or mouse. Again, Valve has specifics for a couple of devices in the link above, but if you're lost, your device's manufacturer will be your best bet for getting specific instructions.

Step 3: Boot using the SteamOS recovery image

Once you've disabled Secure Boot, you can plug the USB stick into your handheld and restart the device. At this point, you should end up at a boot menu that lets you choose which drive to boot to. Once again, this process will sometimes differ by device, so if you're not sure how to get to the boot menu, check your device's documentation.

When you get to the boot menu, select your USB drive with the SteamOS recovery image on it. This will take you to a SteamOS desktop environment. Here, you'll see four shortcuts on the desktop. The one we care about is labeled "Wipe Device & Install SteamOS". Give that a single tap (double-tapping will launch it twice, so be careful).

At this point, you should see a warning that proceeding with this step will erase everything on your device. If you had any important game saves, media, or work files (for some reason) on this device that weren't already backed up, you can still bail on this process and reboot to Windows to save them. This is the point of no return, though. Make sure you're ready before moving forward.

Step 4: Familiarize yourself with your new handheld's quirks

The install process won't take too long, and when it's done, your handheld will restart and begin setup as though it's a natural-born Steam Deck. There are a few quirks, though. For example, in my testing on the Legion Go, the device tutorial pointed to the "Steam button" on the bottom-left side, but used the Xbox logo. In reality, the corresponding button was at the top-right, and had a Legion logo. It also pointed to a microSD card slot on the bottom of the device that doesn't exist.

Unless you're using an official "Powered by SteamOS" device, prepare for some awkwardness while using the device. Aside from the tutorial, I found some games I wasn't able to install—pressing "Install" on Doom Eternal simply did nothing, for example—and it took some time to figure out which hardware buttons were mapped to which Steam Deck input.

To my surprise, some things that I expected to be broken worked perfectly when I tested this. The Legion Go is unique in that its controllers can be detached, Joy-Con style, from the handheld. I expected them to be laggy or non-functional when I played with SteamOS, but they worked perfectly during a Hades II run—a game that isn't very forgiving of input lag.

Your mileage can and will vary depending on what games you want to play and what hardware you want to run SteamOS on. Still, as we wait for manufacturers to more officially support SteamOS—or for Microsoft to make a proper handheld of its own—it's exciting to finally be able to have a choice in platform for these devices.

A Politico column from Washington Monthly politics editor Bill Scher is raising eyebrows for touting Gisele Fetterman and Bill Nye (the Science Guy) as potential shadow Cabinet members.

Working off Senator Elissa Slotkin’s (D-MI) suggestion that Democrats ought to build a shadow Cabinet a la European opposition parties to “take the lead in challenging the Trump administration,” Scher suggested that the party should “tap accomplished people with the ability to speak plainly and the credibility to puncture the Trump administration’s often Orwellian narratives.”

Incredibly, Scher then proceeded to nominate the aforementioned Fetterman, the wife of Senator John Fetterman (D-PA), to run the Department of Homeland Security — the massive federal department in charge of immigration enforcement, FEMA, the Coast Guard, and much more — in the shadow Cabinet.

“Sen. John Fetterman has become a highly controversial figure in the Democratic Party. His militaristic commentary in defense of Israel has alienated progressives. Leaks from former staffers have raised concerns about whether he is fit to serve in the wake of an extended hospital stay to relieve acute depression,” began Scher. “But his wife, Gisele Fetterman, has none of the baggage and is a compelling figure in her own right. An undocumented immigrant who came from Brazil when she was a child, Gisele married John soon after he became mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania. To help poor Braddock residents she founded Free Store 15104, which provides food and clothes to anyone in need. As her husband’s star rose, she kept a cheeky social media presence. When John was elected lieutenant governor, Gisele dubbed herself SLOP (Second Lady of Pennsylvania.)”

“Since the November election, Gisele’s social media activity has declined. Her last X post was written in February, defending immigrants without directly mentioning Trump’s deportation campaign: ‘I still hate politics but I [heart emoji] people and I believe all people deserve to feel safe in their homeland. And if your home is a chosen one, then you should also feel safe there,'” continued Scher. “The cheek may be gone but her intrinsic understanding of the immigrant plight remains. As Trump continues on his aggressive deportation campaign, few in America can better personify and articulate what we lose when we vilify people who loved America enough to choose to live here.”

Subsequently, he suggested that Nye be tapped to lead the EPA, observing that “the bowtied engineer-turned-comedy writer-turned-children’s TV host has long married science and entertainment, and in recent years he has applied his talents to combating climate change.”

“He’s now taken to calling himself ‘Bill Nye the Climate Guy’ and at a time when the party is bemoaning its ability to reach young voters, it could do worse than turn to a guy with a 10-million strong TikTok following,” wrote Scher.

Online, some marveled at the column.

“An actual journalist published a piece in Politico suggesting Gisele Fetterman should be Secretary of Homeland Security because she was once an illegal immigrant, and you’re wondering if any lessons have been learned?” asked RedState’s Bonchie incredulously.

“In an extremely funny April Fools Day article that randomly just published today, Politico suggests a Shadow Cabinet to oppose Trump, including the disastrous Samantha Power as Secretary of State, Letitia James as AG, comedian Jon Stewart at the VA, and Fetterman’s wife for DHS,” observed investigative reporter Jerry Dunleavy, who also shared an oft-mocked clip from Nye’s show Bill Nye Saves the World.

“Democrats can spend $20 million to study ‘male syntax,’ but as long as its political commentators that it listens to fanboy over lists like this, the party is never going to reconnect to normal Americans,” argued conservative radio star Erick Erickson.

“If this the best the Dems can do we’re in great shape,” mused former Trump White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

“It’s literally a tour through the Ignominiously Rejected, plus – for whatever reason – John Fetterman’s wife, who of course is way more progressive and also a completely powerless unelected political spouse,” declared National Review‘s Jeff Blehar.

“A shadow cabinet is tough to pull off in the American context, but it’s not necessarily a bad idea,” submitted Varad Mehta. “But some of the choices (Letitia James as AG, Jon Stewart for the VA, Bill Nye for the EPA, and the aforementioned Mrs. Fetterman for DHS) are so moronic they wholly undermine it.”

Following a tariff-induced delay, retailers officially kicked off Nintendo Switch 2 preorders on Thursday, April 24. I could tell you that preorders went smoothly across all stores, and that there was plenty of stock for everyone who wanted one of Nintendo's new consoles. I could tell you that, but I'd be lying.

The Switch 2's preorder launch was never going to be seamless: The console has eight years of hype built up around it, and fans want their chance to secure the first Nintendo console to play games in 4K. Even still, the preorder situation was rough: There were endless digital queues, error screens, and, in Best Buy's case, even a late start. You might have emerged from that chaos victorious—but if you're reading this article, chances are that fate had other plans for you.

Switch 2 stock was pretty depleted following the midnight preorder launch. Over a month later, and the situation is largely the same. If you search online, you'll likely see a number of "Sold Out" or "Unavailable" alerts where the "Buy Now" button should be. However, just because stores no longer have Switch 2 units to reserve for you at this time, that doesn't mean they'll be out for good. Successfully preordering a Switch 2 might just come down to being in the right place at the right time—something you can plan for, if you're savvy.

Tracking Switch 2 restocking

There are four main retailers offering Switch 2 preorders in the U.S., and none of them have consistent units in stock as of this writing. However, they all offer some hope for customers looking for a chance to reserve a console: restock notifications.

Walmart, Target, GameStop, and Best Buy all have sign-up options on their websites to opt into restock alerts. These vary depending on the site: Walmart and Target require you to log into your associated accounts in order to enroll in notifications. GameStop offers email alerts, as does Best Buy—though the latter only seems to offer general Switch 2 news via email, rather than alerts for individual product restocks. (Though Best Buy is happy to inform you about its in-person Switch 2 launch date event.)

I have all of the various product pages linked below. To maximize your chances, sign up for alerts for all, but if you know you only want the console or that you'd prefer the Mario Kart World bundle (so, you know, you actually have something to play on June 5) stick to those:

You could also use a dedicated website for tracking Switch 2 restocks. There are tons of websites out there for this purpose, including HotStock and NowInStock. Right now, it's only showing available orders on eBay, but ignore those, unless you want to pay inflated prices to scalpers.

Register for Nintendo's offer

Nintendo is selling Switch 2 units as well, but isn't offering preorders. Instead, you can "register your interest" to buy a Switch 2 from the company. In order to qualify, you need a Nintendo Account with at least 50 hours of game play—as of April 2. It's an odd requirement, but it's designed to prevent scalpers from snatching up all the Switch 2s. (Nintendo doesn't want you to make multiple Nintendo Accounts this month and register each.)

Once you register your interest, Nintendo places you on a list on a first-come, first-serve basis. Since you're a bit late to the game, you might be low on this list, but that's okay: Many of the customers who sign up might be fighting for preorders at other stores too, and if they get it, they may reject Nintendo's invitation—bumping your place up in line. At this time, Nintendo says deliveries might roll past June 5, as well as invitations themselves. Still, it's a great backup in case you're not successful preordering at the other stores.

Make sure your preorder is still valid

If you do manage to preorder a Switch 2 before June 5, don't assume you're in the clear. It seems retailers have canceled a handful of preorders already, as some unfortunate customers found out the hard way.

It's not clear why retailers are doing this, but there are two main theories: First, the stores don't have enough inventory to cover the amount of preorders they accepted, which is believable enough. The other suspected cause is payment failure: If the retailers tried to charge you for your preorder, and your payment didn't go through, they might have canceled the order and moved on to the next customer.

To make sure you really do get your Switch 2 next week, just ensure your order is still valid. If something goes wrong, contact the retailer as soon as possible.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) called on Monday for President Donald Trump to “AT LEAST” put more sanctions on Russia following Vladimir Putin’s latest attack on Ukraine.

“I’ve had enuf [sic] of Putin killing innocent ppl. Pres Trump Take action AT LEAST SANCTIONS,” wrote Grassley on X.

Trump also expressed his anger at Putin in a social media post on Sunday night, writing, “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers.

“Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever. I’ve always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia! Likewise, President Zelenskyy is doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does. Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop. This is a War that would never have started if I were President. This is Zelenskyy’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s War, not “Trump’s,” I am only helping to put out the big and ugly fires, that have been started through Gross Incompetence and Hatred,” Trump concluded.

Grassley, the chair of the Judiciary Committee and president pro tempore of the Senate, also called for Trump to take action back in late April. “IVE SEEN ENOUGH KILLING OF INNOCENT UKRAINIAN women + children. President Trump pls put the toughest of sanctions on Putin. U ought to c [sic] from clear evidence that he is playing America as a patsy,” Grassley wrote on X at the time.

Grassley’s comments come after Russia launched its biggest drone attack yet on Ukraine, with some 900 attack drones launched between Friday and Sunday, according to Ukrainian officials.

President Donald Trump used some of his Memorial Day remarks at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday to criticize former President Joe Biden’s record on immigration.

Trump spoke for about 17 minutes at the annual ceremony honoring US service members who died in combat. For most of his speech, he paid tribute to generations of Americans who gave their lives in war for the cause of liberty.

But at one point in his address, Trump veered from his prepared remarks to comment on what he called a “hard four years,” criticizing Biden’s handling of the border.

“Who would let that happen?” Trump asked moments after honoring some of the country’s first war heroes.

Trump went on to acknowledge that Arlington on Memorial Day was not the proper forum to hit Biden and continued his speech.

“This Memorial Day is especially significant as we commemorate 250 years since the first American patriots fell on the field of battle,” Trump said. “Two-and-a-half centuries ago, at Lexington Green, Concord Bridge, Bunker Hill, brave minutemen and humble farm boys became the first to give their lives for a nation that did not yet have a name.” He continued:

With their deaths, men like John Brown, 23, Samuel Hadley, 28, and Abner Hawes, 21, ignited the flame of liberty that now lights the inspires everybody, and the entire world. Those young men could never have known what their sacrifice would mean to us, but we certainly know what we owe to them.

Their valor gave us the freest, greatest, and most noble republic ever to exist on the face of the Earth, a republic that I am fixing after a long and hard four years.

While attacking Biden, Trump said, “That was a hard four years we went through. Who would let that happen? People pouring through our borders unchecked. People doing things that are indescribable and not for today to discuss.”

Trump went on to declare that with him at the helm, the country would do “better than ever before.”

The co-author of the new book exposing the decline of former president Joe Biden while in office, and the cover-up by Democrats at the White House to keep it under wraps, said on Fox News Sunday that one top, unelected admin official admitted to doing “undemocratic things” in the name of saving democracy.

Axios reporter Alex Thompson spoke with Fox News host Shannon Bream on Sunday about his new book with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, in which the two veteran journalists exhaustively cover the many ways in which administration officials and top White House aides conspired to hide the president’s decline from both the public and, in some cases, his own cabinet.

Bream brought up a particular passage from the book, saying to Thompson, “you quote a long-time Biden aide, basically admitting he shouldn’t be running again.”

She read aloud the shocking quote attributed to the unnamed aide: “‘He just had to win, and then he could disappear for four years. –He’d only have to show proof of life every once in a while…. His aides could pick up the slack.'”

“Who would have been running the White House in a second Biden term?” she asked.

Thompson said the aide went on to tell them that “when you’re voting for a president, you’re voting for the aides around him,” and noted that they weren’t even Senate-confirmed aides. “These were unelected people,” he said.

“One of the things that really I think comes out in our reporting here is that if you believe — and I think a lot of these people do sincerely believe that Donald Trump was and is an existential threat to democracy — you can rationalize anything, including sometimes doing undemocratic things,” Thompson added. “Which I think is what this person is talking about.

In a separate interview with Tapper and Thompson recently, the two discussed how the cadre of handlers and aides who were “running the White House” were known, both in the building at the time and in the book now, as the “politburo” — which does indeed sound “undemocratic.”

IndyCar driver Alexander Rossi with Ed Carpenter Racing was frustrated and furious Sunday after his race hopes ended in a scary pit lane fire, and it was only one of several dramatic moments at the 109th running of the storied Indianapapolis 500.

The “Andretti Curse” struck early, knocking out Marco Andretti on the fourth lap. And even before that, Scott McLaughlin was devastated after going out with a crash during the pace lap.

Rossi’s pit fire was dramatic, Dale Coyne Racing’s Rinus VeeKay had a spin-out on the way in, and Prema Racing’s Robert Shwartzman had a frightening close call with the pit crew.

The New York Times published a hard-hitting report, Sunday, laying out the ways in which President Donald Trump has monetized his office. But the Gray Lady didn’t exactly let Democrats off the hook Sunday — as they also ran a devastating feature on the party’s efforts to win back young male voters.

In the piece — written by national political correspondent Shane Goldmacher — some brutal details were reported about the Democratic party’s efforts to bring young men back into the fold.

“Democratic donors and strategists have been gathering at luxury hotels to discuss how to win back working-class voters, commissioning new projects that can read like anthropological studies of people from faraway places,” Goldmacher wrote. “The prospectus for one new $20 million effort, obtained by The Times, aims to reverse the erosion of Democratic support among young men, especially online. It is code-named SAM — short for ‘Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan’ — and promises investment to ‘study the syntax, language and content that gains attention and virality in these spaces.’ It recommends buying advertisements in video games, among other things.”

The party’s approval rating has been measured at historical lows — with one recent NBC News poll finding just 27 percent of Americans approve of the party at the moment. Internally, a messy power struggle has played out in full view — as the DNC voided the election which made outspoken activist David Hogg a vice chair. The DNC ruled the election had not followed proper parliamentary procedures, but Hogg suggested the party had ulterior motives for ousting him — given that he was openly plotting to primary some incumbents. In a statement, Hogg said it is “impossible to ignore the broader context of my work to reform the party, which loomed large over this vote.”

Democratic consultant Anat Shenker-Osorio delivered a devastating assessment of the party’s efforts to broaden its appeal.

“The party is doing a lot of navel-gazing and not enough full-belly acting,” Shenker-Osorio told the Times.

A wild brawl broke out Saturday at a soccer match in Southern California between the fans of two rival squads.

Following the match between FC San Diego and the L.A. Galaxy on Saturday in San Diego’s Snapdragon Stadium, fans in the upper deck of the stadium starting throwing beer at one another and then trading wild punches in what was a furious encounter. Footage from the incident showed fans wailing away on one another as stadium personnel could do little to stop the mayhem.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, more than a dozen police cars and a police helicopter were dispatched to the scene to gain control.

“The incidents that occurred following Saturday’s match at Snapdragon Stadium do not reflect the values of either club and are entirely unacceptable,” the two teams said in a joint statement after the match. “Both clubs are actively working with Snapdragon Stadium security, Major League Soccer, and local law enforcement to conduct a thorough review of the incidents. Any behavior found to be in violation of the MLS Fan Code of Conduct will result in disciplinary action, which may include stadium ejections and bans.”

Videos of the scary incident quickly circulated across social media. In a post-match news conference, San Diego coach Mikey Veras condemned the incident. (A similar fracas erupted following San Diego’s March 29 match.)

“There’s no place for violence in this sport,” Veras said. “This is the beautiful game. It’s supposed to bring joy.”

MSNBC correspondent and White House Correspondents Association president Eugene Daniels questioned why anyone should believe former Cabinet Secretaries who are now claiming they were kept away from President Joe Biden for months as part of a plot to hide his decline, if they dishonestly failed share that information before.

As part of the slew of interviews with journalists Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson about their new book on the cover-up of Biden’s mental and physical decline while in office, host Daniels and co-hosts Elise Jordan and Jonathan Capehart spoke with Thompson on Saturday’s The Weekend on MSNBC.

In that book, “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again”, the authors lay out comments from several unnamed Cabinet members, quoting them describing being kept away from the president for months or more than a year.

“For months, we didn’t have access to him. There was clearly a deliberate strategy by the White House to have him meet with as few people as necessary,” reads one quote from a cabinet member in the book.

“At one rare meeting during that time,” that Cabinet Secretary was “shocked by how the president was acting. He seemed ‘disoriented’ and ‘out of it,’ his mouth agape,” Tapper and Thompson report.

Jordan brought up the Cabinet Secretaries on Saturday, and Thompson said that, not only did multiple members of the cabinet confirm they had little to no access to Biden, but told the authors that the reason they didn’t come clean about it was they felt it would help then-candidate Donald Trump. He also pointed out that the Cabinet members were “troubled” by what they saw when they were able to gain rare time with Biden.

Jordan followed up, saying if they “were deeply concerned and they weren’t sure who was making decisions, why didn’t they come forward while they were serving?”

That’s when Daniels asked why we should believe them now if they’re claiming to have withheld information then, and questioning their motives.

“But why should people trust them now, right?” he said. “Because I don’t know who these cabinet secretaries were, but maybe they probably want to work in a different administration. They want to be on K Street. They want be at some think tank. Why should anyone trust them when they spend all this time? Apparently no one got this information and not telling anybody. Now they have a lot to say.

Thompson called it a “fair question” and offered their fears of a Trump presidency as a dubious defense.

THOMPSON: there were also people that I talked to in the past that weren’t really candid and finally felt they could be candid and you know to give them the benefit of doubt I think a lot of them were scared because they felt that if they spoke out it wasn’t gonna get Joe Biden out of the race and also was only gonna help Donald Trump.

So, you know cabinet members, senior White House officials and to your point you know about the restricting access — remember, one that just comes to mind is, you know one person basically when Whenever the White House press team wanted to put someone on the phone with a reporter saying, Joe Biden’s great, Joe Biden is fine. At some point, this one person was like, I’m not gonna do that because I haven’t seen him in months.

They were like people that would normally see the president, even on a somewhat regular basis, were no longer allowed to. And even a few times we had one cabinet secretary that was allowed to go see him in that period, 2024, and they went in the meeting and they were shocked. His mouth was agape. He seemed incoherent, and they were really troubled.

JORDAN: When I think you have four cabinet secretaries, just to follow up on that, and they say that they were deeply concerned and they weren’t sure who was making decisions. Why didn’t they come forward while they were serving? Because it is a big deal. It is a huge deal for the president of the United States to not have all of their faculties.

DANIELS: But why should people trust them now, right? Because I don’t know who these cabinet secretaries were, but maybe they probably want to work in a different administration. They want to be on K Street. They want be at some think tank. Why should anyone trust them when they spend all this time? Apparently no one got this information and not telling anybody. Now they have a lot to say.

THOMPSON: I mean, it’s a fair question, and I think, you know, I would just encourage people to read the book. It’s also why we didn’t just trust one cabinet secretary, right. I mean we tried to get as many as possible. But I think it’s fair question why they did not speak out, and, I can tell you, there was some self-reflection in our interviews, and think they’re still sort of tortured about it.

At the end, their normal answer, believe it or, you can take it for what it’s worth, but their answer usually was, if we spoke out, it wasn’t going to change him from running, it was only going to help Trump.
