During a discussion on Friday’s All In about Senate Republicans’ successful effort to block the formation of a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 Capitol riot, Tim Miller of The Bulwark ripped into former President Donald Trump and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) for spreading the Big Lie that led to it.

Earlier in the day, Gosar tweeted fondly about Ashli Babbitt, the U.S. Air Force veteran who stormed the Capitol and was fatally shot as she tried to break through a door leading to an area where lawmakers were sheltering in place. “They took her life.” tweeted Gosar. “They could not take her pride.”

Gosar has touted election conspiracy theories and claims Trump had it stolen from him. The juxtaposition didn’t sit well with Miller, who ripped into Gosar and Trump.

I’m so sick of being lectured by Trump supporters about caring about the feelings and desires of the 74 million people that voted for him. Because they were lied to. And in some ways, they are victims here too, and Ashli Babbitt would not have been there that day if it wasn’t for Donald Trump and Paul Gosar. Ashli Babbitt is dead because of them. Her death is on them. They are responsible for it. And I just think we need to understand that and state that clearly going forward.

The bill to create a bipartisan commission failed in a procedural vote in the Senate earlier in the day, 54-35, falling six votes short of the 60 needed to move the measure forward. Just six Republicans voted in favor.
