CNN political commentator S.E. Cupp went on a tear against Republicans Friday after the majority of GOP senators voted against the 1/6 commission.

Jake Tapper spoke with Cupp and Paul Begala after his interview with Gladys Sicknick and Sandra Garza, the mother and partner of fallen Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. Both of them met with Republican senators Thursday to try and push them to support the commission. Ultimately most of them opposed it in a vote Friday.

“My question to the Republican party,” Cupp said, “would be, what are you here for? What is your function if not to, you know, preserve the republic and protect American democracy?”

She lamented that America is supposed to have “two strong parties” fighting on ideas, but the GOP is “speaking gibberish, with nonsense, talking about Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head and conspiracy theories and lies.”

Cupp said the GOP is “almost a failed party” and that she finds it embarrassing to watch Republicans “cower” just to “fetishize and service the emotional narcissism of one guy.”

“It’s maddening. And when I watch women like you had on, who lost people on that day, it is — it’s worse than maddening, it’s infuriating. It’s a disgrace,” she added.
