Rep. Sean Duffy appeared on CNN’s New Day and engaged in a spirited discussion with host Alisyn Camerota over border security funding and President Donald Trump’s controversial declaration of a National Emergency as a bureaucratic end-run against congressional’s lesser funding of the effort to fulfill his campaign promise of “build that wall.”

Duffy is no stranger to television hits, in fact, his initial rise to fame came as a cast member on MTV’s reality show Real World, and he frequently appears on the more ideologically friendly confines of Fox News, where his wife Rachel Campos Duffy is a contributor and often guest host. So credit to Duffy for appearing on CNN and getting challenged by an actual journalist in a manner that he may not be accustomed to from Fox News opinion hosts who pitch softballs.

Camerota delivered a master class in challenging Duffy’s rhetoric over the national emergency and border security in a very tough but never unfriendly or uncivil manner. And while Duffy was on the rhetorical ropes, he fought back though often by answering tough questions by pivoting to an answer that was more expedient to his and the White House position.
