WATCH: Elizabeth Warren Sidesteps Question About Native American Ancestry Gaffe in First 2020 Press Conference

By News Here - 00:02

In her first press conference after announcing the formation of a exploratory committee for a presidential run, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) dodged a question on whether her exaggerated Native American heritage claims could affect her chance to be president.

If I am a Democrat, “I worry about electability, I worry about a campaign more about Native American ancestry than the middle class,” a reporter presented before Warren.

“Look, I’m in this fight because I understand what’s happening to working families,” she responded, not addressing her Native American heritage gaffe. “I grew up in a paycheck-to-paycheck family and my big chance was a commuter college that cost 50 dollars a semester.”

Adding how she is running because she is “grateful down to her toes” for the opportunities afforded to her, Warren said she wants to give those opportunities to all Americans, not just a select few. She also blasted how Washington, D.C. works well for the pharmaceutical companies instead of the patients.

Warren’s Native American heritage has been heavily scrutinized since she released a DNA report that showed she could anywhere from 1/64th to 1/1,024th Native American, which is significantly less than what was led to believe.
