GOP Rep Defends Trump’s Tweet Claiming He ‘Never Pushed’ House Republicans to Pass Immigration Bill

By News Here - 00:03

On Saturday, President Donald Trump sent out a tweet claiming that he “never pushed” House Republicans to pass the Goodlatte 1 or 2 immigration bill.

“I never pushed the Republicans in the House to vote for the Immigration Bill, either GOODLATTE 1 or 2, because it could never have gotten enough Democrats as long as there is the 60 vote threshold. I released many prior to the vote knowing we need more Republicans to win in Nov,” Trump tweeted out Saturday as news of immigration protests and marches dominated the headlines.

The only problem, however, is just days ago, Trump appeared to say just the opposite, in all-caps no less.

Here’s the tweet, which was not deleted:

The seeming contradiction did not exactly go unnoticed on Twitter.

However, at least one Republican lawmaker is coming to his defense.

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) tweeted out that he was in the meeting and “felt absolutely ZERO pressure whatsoever from @RealDonaldTrump. What’s crystal clear is he definitely wants to get a great immigration bill passed.”

Donald Trump Jr. retweeted the Representative’s claims. Zeldin is currently running for reelection in his New York district.
