Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler has been vocal about his stance against mask mandates for children in schools, even losing an Uber Eats sponsorship over his position. Cutler joined Stuart Varney on Fox Business to explain his opinion.

“Whenever we look at the statistics, kids…in elementary school they’re at the very bottom of the spectrum of people that are getting sick, that are getting hospitalized,” Cutler said.

“These kids are in school for eight hours,” he continued on Varney & Co. “That air is getting circulated. It just is. It’s just a matter of time. You can’t put 12 eight-year-olds in a room and expect them to put the mask on and have those on for eight hours a day. It’s just not possible. I think we’re really – we’re not giving the kids a chance to learn and do what they need to do best in a school setting right now.”

Cutler’s stance against mask mandates for children prompted him to launch a campaign for his kids’ school board. He has plenty of time to promote his beliefs and opinions, however, as the next election will take place in 2024.

In 2014, Cutler and his now ex-wife Krisin Cavallari stated their decision not to vaccinate their children, a topic that has escalated in the last year. At the time, Cavallari cited theories of connections between vaccinations and autism in children, despite counter arguments by scientific studies.

“If you want to wear a mask, if you want to get the vaccine, that’s fine. That’s your choice,” Cutler told Varney. “I just don’t want for someone else to say that I have to do something whenever I feel it’s not needed or it’s something that I believe in.”

The former NFL quarterback launched a podcast this week, Uncut with Jay Cutler, where he plans to have guests who can offer countering points from both sides of the argument on masks and vaccines. The topic wasn’t broached much on his debut episode, which featured two sports radio hosts from Chicago.
