GOP Rep. Peter King: McConnell Spreading a ‘Total Lie’ With Coronavirus Comments
New York Republican congressman Peter King continued blasting Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Fox News Friday over his coronavirus comments suggesting states should consider bankruptcy.
King initially called McConnell “the Marie Antoinette of the Senate” for implying “that it is ‘free money’ to provide funds for cops, firefighters and healthcare workers.”
Friday night King spoke with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum, who said, “That’s the argument, that so much money is going out the door and some companies as well as some states are going to look at this as an opportunity to fill their coffers to make up for past misdeeds and budgets that don’t work.”
“No, that’s a total lie being spread by Mitch McConnell,” King responded. “No one is looking for any money other than that we’ve lost directly because of the coronavirus. We’re talking about paying the cops, the firefighters, the doctors, all of the lost revenue also because of coronavirus. This has nothing to do with pensions, nothing to do with state spending.”
“None of the money we’re talking about, none of the funding would be in any way tied to state policies. It’s entirely because of the coronavirus, because of the shutdown,” King continued. He talked about how his own county has been affected by this pandemic before saying, “One of the reasons New York has problems otherwise is because we subsidize Kentucky. We get many many billions less back from the federal treasury than we pay in, while Mitch McConnell and Kentucky, they walk off with billions more than they’re entitled to.”
