Colbert Mocks Trump’s ‘Pro Shark Media’ Retweet: ‘We’ve Officially Entered the Dumbest Time in Human History’
Stephen Colbert tonight mocked President Donald Trump‘s latest Fox News-relevant tweetstorm and his actual sharing of a tweet from the parody account Trump But About Sharks.
Yesterday, to briefly recap, on Fox & Friends Ed Henry challenged Mark Levin on whether he’s okay with “a president asking his counterpart… to dig up dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden and his son.”
Levin complained that his question was “not honest” and went off in response. The president was clearly watching, as he retweeted pretty much anyone who mentioned Henry in a negative light and/or praised Levin. One of the tweet he retweeted was a bot that replaces words in the president’s tweets with the word “shark.”
After mocking Levin’s rant about the whistleblower, Colbert read that tweet out loud: “Amen Mark Levin, preach brother! You shut down Ed Henry and the pro shark media.”
“The President of the United States just tweeted the phrase ‘pro-shark media,'” Colbert said. “which means we’ve officially entered the dumbest time in human history. Beating the previous dumbest time, when we thought a spooky bird mask could protect you from the black plague.”

Don Lemon Praises Chris Wallace, Ed Henry for Challenging Trumpworld Spin: Trump Defenders ‘Straight-Up Lying’
CNN host Don Lemon had praise for Fox News’ Ed Henry and Chris Wallace for their interviewing skills, calling it important for reporters to call out “straight-up lying.”
“The facts are more important now than ever before because the lies from the president of the United States and from his defenders, those lies are coming fast, and they’re coming furious,” Lemon said Monday on CNN Tonight with Don Lemon.
“The president tweeting an absolute tirade of lies and abuse, and his defenders singing from the very same hymn book,” he continued. “We’ve got to stand up for the facts. That’s what we have to do. And that includes those of us who are in the media. We cannot allow the president’s defenders to spew falsehoods, to spew lies, misdirections, shiny objects as if the facts were a matter of opinion because they are not.”
Lemon then specifically singled out Wallace’s interview with Trump adviser Stephen Miller and Henry’s attempt to press conservative radio host Mark Levin.
Lemon also praised CNN anchor Jake Tapper fact-checking GOP Rep. Jim Jordan on State of the Union.
“That was Jake Tapper, our very own Jake Tapper, not letting the congressman get away with lies. And I think that is really important. If the president’s defenders cannot stick to the facts, if they can’t tell the truth, then we have to say so. We have to demand the truth. We have got to. The facts. Like we always say around here, facts first. And it matters now more than ever,” Lemon said.

Hillary Clinton Mocks Giuliani, Defends Whistleblower on Colbert: ‘Has a Depth of Understanding’ We Should Take Seriously
Hillary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight, and in a preview released by CBS, the former Secretary of State reacted to one of the many pieces of breaking news today.
TONIGHT: Sec. @HillaryClinton and @ChelseaClinton react to the news that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was on the line during Trump's problematic call with the leader of Ukraine. #LSSC pic.twitter.com/pk9nhcEF02
— The Late Show (@colbertlateshow) October 1, 2019
Colbert brought up the news from The Wall Street Journal that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was on the Trump Ukraine call, and asked Clinton how many times she told Barack Obama, “You can’t extort foreign countries to get dirt on your political enemies.”
Clinton laughed and said, “That never happened.”
She told Colbert normally a high level of preparation goes into such calls, but “because you’ve got a president who doesn’t listen to anybody and doesn’t follow instructions whatsoever,” officials may have just given up because “they don’t know what he’s going to say.”
Clinton — who said recently she’s all in favor of impeachment — also defended the whistleblower and responded to people dismissing the complaint as hearsay, saying, “It was an admission from the White House. The transcript of the phone call was put out by the White House, and the whistleblower has a depth of understanding that needs to be taken seriously about what happened.”
Colbert also brought up Rudy Giuliani being involved in foreign policy. Clinton mocked Giuliani a bit by saying while presidents and Secretaries of State utilize envoys, “it is supposed to be carefully thought through, and from what we’ve seen on television, carefully thinking through is not one of Rudy’s strong points.”

Ralph Peters Accuses ‘Bloated Charlatan’ Trump of Sedition: ‘Inciting Violence Against the Legitimate Government’
Former Fox News analyst Lt. Col. Ralph Peters accused President Donald Trump of sedition for a tweet threatening civil war if he was impeached, saying he was “inciting violence.”
Peters was appearing on Anderson Cooper’s program Monday night. Cooper ran an extra hour of Anderson Cooper 360 to cover for Chris Cuomo, who was off.
Colonel Peters, when you see the president tweet about Civil War … I’m wondering what your reaction is,” Cooper asked.
“One word, sedition,” Peters said. “Trump is inciting violence against the legitimate government of the United States and the constitutional order. And, Anderson, that is a grave crime. You can argue about the meaning of treason, what constitutes it, what doesn’t–sedition is very clear cut.”
“Trump, he’s afraid. He’s a frightened, frightened man. If he loses the election and it’s not a forgone conclusion that he will but if he does, he’ll face the rest of his life in courtrooms, perhaps in prison,” he continued.
“You see Republicans on Capitol Hill just cowering, just cowering, afraid of Donald Trump, this bloated old charlatan who never served in any capacity and all these Republican patriots who served, they’re running to make excuses for him, cringing. I know my views are strong on this,” he said.
“With this president, it’s always been said everything is transactional, relationships are transactional,” Cooper noted.
“It’s Trump is all about Trump is all about Trump,” Peters said. And I really feel sorry for the people who voted for him who convinced themselves that this man is a patriot.”
Peters previously worked as an analyst for Fox, but has since become a fierce critic of Trump and the network.

Giuliani Tells Hannity He’s ‘Weighing the Alternatives’ on Testifying: ‘If They Let Me Use Video Tapes and Tape Recordings’
Rudy Giuliani appeared on Sean Hannity‘s show tonight to respond to being subpoenaed by three House committees.
Giuliani railed against Biden and brought up the Biden camp’s letters to networks telling them to stop having him on TV.
Giuliani told Hannity they’re “silencing” him because he has someone “willing to stand up and point the finger at Joe Biden and say, ‘You’re a crook.'”
Towards the end of the interview, Hannity asked him if he would testify, adding that “Jay Sekulow‘s absolutely right, you don’t have to do anything.”
“I’m weighing the alternatives,” Giuliani said. “I’ll get all my evidence together, I’ll get my charts. I don’t know, if they let me use my video tapes and tape recordings that I have, if they let me get some of the evidence that I gathered — and I have to tell you, Sean, all this nonsense about I was interfering in the election, I gathered all this evidence before the Mueller probe ended, so it was clearly under my responsibility as the lawyer for the President of the United States.”

Fox’s Tucker Carlson Questions Sending Aid to Ukraine: ‘Why Should I As An American Be in Favor?’
Fox News host Tucker Carlson questioned the practice of sending foreign aid to Ukraine on Tucker Carlson Tonight, with a guest saying “a lot of places where we pour foreign aid over the years are corrupt.”
“If I were Ukrainian I would be in favor of this. Why should I as an American be in favor of this?” Carlson asked his guest Christian Whiton, who worked in the George W. Bush and Donald Trump administrations.
“The problem is, the place is crooked,” Whiton said. “It’s corrupt. A lot of places where we pour foreign aid over the years are corrupt and you get more corruption when you do that.”
“It’s funny that my country is actually being invaded by other countries from the South,” Carlson said, referring to South America. “Look at the population movement in the United States without our permission. And nobody cares and caring as itself seems a more but we have to be outraged, morally outraged that Russia is making belligerent noises at Ukraine. Do you think that’s weird?”
“Why wouldn’t we be friends with Russia?” Carlson asked. “No one has ever explained that to me. I’ve never understood that. China is the threat. It’s really clear and yet Washington is polluted with dumb people and it’s forcing us to be at war with Russia, I just think it’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.”

Kamala Harris Says Trump’s Latest Tweets Should Get Him Suspended From Twitter
Sen. Kamala Harris argued on CNN Monday that President Donald Trump’s latest tweets should get him suspended from the platform.
The California Democrat and 2020 presidential candidate was asked by CNN’s Anderson Cooper about the president’s threat to find the identity of the whistleblower.
Harris said she believes Congress will protect the whistleblower, before taking aim at the president’s recent tweets — in which he demanded to “meet” the whistleblower and suggested the House Intelligence Committee chairman, Rep. Adam Schiff, be arrested for “treason.”
“Frankly, when you look at what he’s been tweeting today, directed at the whistleblower, directed at so many people, I frankly, think that based on this and all we’ve seen him do before, including attacking members of Congress,” Harris said, “that frankly his Twitter account should be suspended.”
“I think there’s plenty of now evidence to suggest that he is irresponsible with his words in a way that could result in harm to other people. And so the privilege of using those words in that way should probably be taken from him.”
“And so what we see continuously, including in the last 24-hours, is a use of his words, Donald Trump using his words in a way that could subject someone to harm,” Harris said. “And if he’s not going to exercise self-restraint, then, perhaps, there should be other mechanisms in place to make sure that his words do not in fact harm anyone.”

Kamala Harris Rips Trump for ‘Civil War’ Tweet: ‘Delusional’ to Compare Impeachment to War Over Slavery
Senator Kamala Harris said tonight President Donald Trump is “delusional” to invoke “civil war” in talking about impeachment.
Trump was roundly criticized for tweets quoting a Fox News guest saying there will be “a Civil War like fracture” in the country if Democrats “are successful in removing the President from office”:
….rid of Donald J. Trump – And the Democrats don’t care if they burn down and destroy this nation in the process. I have never seen the Evangelical Christians more angry over any issue than this attempt to illegitimately remove this President from office, overturn the 2016….
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 30, 2019
….If the Democrats are successful in removing the President from office (which they will never be), it will cause a Civil War like fracture in this Nation from which our Country will never heal.” Pastor Robert Jeffress, @FoxNews
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 30, 2019
Harris spoke with Anderson Cooper tonight and said, “If Donald Trump thinks that this is a moment where he’s actually being held accountable for his failures as president and his failure to uphold the oath to protect the Constitution of the United States and our democracy, if he’s equating that with a war that took place between American people over slavery, I mean, it is yet again evidence of the fact that he is delusional in that he has a very outsized sense of himself as compared to the history of our country and all that we have been through and all that we are capable of. So, you know, I just think what’s most important is we not indulge his delusions and that we bring him back to reality. And I think the impeachment process will do that.”

Trump Tweets Out Breitbart Online Poll Showing 97.83% of People ‘Stand With’ Him on Impeachment
Amidst a raft of polls showing a surge in support for his impeachment, President Donald Trump shared a more favorable metric of his popularity: an online poll from right wing website Breitbart on whether respondents “stand with” him.
“Do you stand with President Trump?” asked the online poll, labeled “BREITBART IMPEACHMENT POLL.”
97.83% of respondents voted “yes,” while 2.17% voted “no.”
“THANK YOU!” Trump wrote on Twitter in response.

Meanwhile, a new Quinnipiac poll out Monday found a dead heat in support for impeachment. 47 percent said they thought Trump should be impeached and removed from office, while 47 percent said they did not think he should be removed. The poll represents a significant surge in support for impeachment compared to last week.
Quinnipiac: “Do you think that President Trump should be impeached and removed from office?” (change from last week)
Yes 47 (+10)
No 47 (-10)That’s a swing of 20 net points and this is not just asking about an impeachment inquiry, but *removing Trump from office.*
Buckle up.

Lou Dobbs Rails Against Pelosi and Schumer: Democrats ‘Behaving as an Enemy of the State’
Lou Dobbs tonight went off on Democrats in Congress for trying to “subvert” President Donald Trump and his administration.
With the impeachment inquiry underway, Dobbs expressed astonishment that Democratic leaders still think they can work with the president when they’re “behaving as an enemy of the state”:
“They are the absolutely willing to subvert the President of the United States. They are lawless, they are reckless, and then they want to pretend — Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer want to talk with the president about gun control? Really?! Nancy, Chuck, get real! You’re behaving as an enemy of the state, and then you want to play like you’re going to make a deal with the president? Oh, and I love the fact they offered to sign a deal on gun control in the Rose Garden. Wouldn’t that be sweet? Who the Hell do they think they are?!”
Dobbs concluded the segment by saying at some point, Pelosi and Schumer should be told to “go to hell.”

Whistleblower Reportedly Now in Federal Protection, Lawyers Allege ‘Certain Individuals’ Have Offered $50,000 ‘Bounty’
CBS reported a new update on the anonymous whistleblower: they have been placed into federal protection “because he or she fears for their safety.”
60 Minutes reported Sunday night that a letter from the whistleblower’s attorney Andrew Bakaj alleges “certain individuals have issued a $50,000 ‘bounty’ for ‘any information’ relating to our client’s identity.” The letter includes Trump’s leaked comments from earlier this week, saying they indicated a threat of violence against the whistleblower.
“I want to know who’s the person, who’s the person who gave the whistleblower the information? Because that’s close to a spy,” Trump said earlier this week. “You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart? Right? The spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now.”
Scott Pelley also spoke with Rep. Adam Schiff, Rep. Kevin McCarthy and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi about the ongoing impeachment inquiry. The inquiry was launched following the release of a transcript that appeared to show Trump asking the Ukrainian president for political favors in exchange for military aid.
The segment featured an awkward exchange between McCarthy and Pelley, with McCarthy accusing him of inserting a word while reading off the transcript. Pelley was reading the transcript verbatim.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said the president did nothing impeachable. “I see two leaders having admiration, not intimidation,” he tells Scott Pelley about President Trump’s phone call with President Zelensky https://t.co/68FhBmgQsJ pic.twitter.com/sKrdQSalfh
— 60 Minutes (@60Minutes) September 30, 2019
“He said ‘I’d like you to do a favor though’?” McCarthy asked.
“Yes, it’s in the White House transcript,” Pelley responded.
