Tucker Defends Don Jr. Tweet on Kamala Harris’ Race: Don Lemon Also Said She ‘Is Not an African-American’
On Tuesday, Fox News host Tucker Carlson defended Donald Trump Jr. for sharing a post questioning the race of presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris’ (D-CA), as Carlson argued the first-son’s tweet was similar to comments CNN host Don Lemon made recently.
“Harris is *not* an American Black. She is half Indian and half Jamaican,” read the tweet Trump Jr. shared — which was written by a far-right commentator — and then quickly deleted. “I’m so sick of people robbing American Blacks (like myself) of our history. It’s disgusting.”
While describing the post, Carlson said, “Harris’ life story doesn’t bear much resemblance to most African Americans.”
“Donald Trump Jr. retweeted that observation,” he added. “For that, CNN denounced him as a terrifying racist.”
The host went on to play clips of various condemnations of Trump Jr. for the post before saying “no less authority than Don Lemon also of CNN said virtually exactly the same thing just a few months ago.
“Now this tape has been floating around Washington and Don Lemon has been calling other anchors even on other channels and asking them not to replay it because he’s embarrassed of it,” Carlson added. “But we think you have a right to see it and decide for yourself if Don Lemon is an anti-black racist.”
In the clip, Lemon can be seen saying, “All she has to do is say, ‘I’m black but I’m not African American.’ That’s it … Jamaica is not America.”
“Here’s Don Lemon telling you that Kamala Harris is not an African-American,” Carlson said while reacting to the CNN segment. “And yet that’s not racist because Don Lemon is a democratic voter. That’s the logic of identity politics.”
