Marianne Williamson Hits Mag for Snubbing Her: The Framers of the Constitution Didn’t Make Vogue the ‘Gatekeeper’
Vogue profiled the women running for president, but there was one notable absence: Marianne Williamson.
The profile focused on Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Tulsi Gabbard. Williamson is mentioned in the piece, but the focus is on the five female lawmakers in the race.
On CNN tonight, Kate Bolduan spoke with Williamson and said Vogue‘s response to questions about her being exluded was, “We’re in no way discrediting Marianne Williamson and all she’s accomplished. For the photo, Vogue wanted to highlight the five female lawmakers who bring a collective 40 years of a collect of amount of experience to this race.”
Williamson said this in response:
“The Framers of the Constitution were very clear about who’s qualified to run for president. They did not make any media, certainly not Vogue Magazine, the gatekeeper here. The Framers of the Constitution said in order to run for president, in order to be qualified to be president, you have to have been born here, you have to have lived here 14 years, and you have to be 35 years or older. If they wanted to say you had to be an elected official, they would have. And they didn’t for a reason.”
Bolduan also asked Williamson about some of her most notable answers at last week’s debate, including what she said about how they’re not going to be able to beat Trump just by having plans.
Williamson said she does have policy plans and that her point was “the role of imagination and inspiring people” needed to beat Trump.
