Outgoing GOP Rep.: Trump Owns the Shutdown, He ‘Has Not Provided Clarity on What He Would Agree To’
Outgoing Congressman Ryan Costello (R- PA) criticized President Donald Trump today for not providing more clarity on what he would agree to in order to end the government shutdown.
He told Brianna Keilar this afternoon that he doesn’t understand why the President has decided to work with House Democrats over House Republicans, noting the lack of clarity on what Trump actually wants that’s causing problems in the negotiations.
He criticized the Democrats too over their positioning on immigration, but he added, “I think the President has backed himself into a corner.”
Costello continued:
“He owns this shutdown, he said it was going to be his shutdown, and he has not provided clarity on what he would agree to, and as a consequence, everything is ambiguous at this point. No one knows how to move forward, and now the Democratic House is going to be in control of putting forward clearly what it is they’re willing to do in terms of funding the government. I think it’s a lost opportunity for the President to have led on the issue.”
