NBC’s Kristen Welker Grills GOP Senator for Refusing to Say Trump Lost in 2020: ‘Do You Just Not Want to’ Say it?

By News Here - 13:07

NBC News anchor Kristen Welker grilled Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) for refusing to say if Donald Trump lost the 2020 election to President Joe Biden.

Recently, many of the former president’s top advocates have refused to admit that Trump lost the 2020 election — including his vice presidential nominee JD Vance. However, Trump has stated several times recently that he did narrowly lose the 2020 election — although he has, at several other times, maintained the opposite.

During a Sunday morning interview on Meet The Press, Cotton refused to definitively say Trump lost the election — instead sticking to the line that Biden was “elected president”:

WELKER: Can you say definitively here, now, that Donald Trump did lose the 2020 election?

COTTON: President Joe Biden was elected president in 2020. It was an unfair election in many ways. I mean, you had states that were changing their election practices or election laws, sometimes in violation of the Constitution. You had networks combining with big tech to suppress what we now know to be a truth for story about Hunter Biden’s laptop and the evidence that it exposed about Biden family corruption. So obviously, Joe Biden was elected president. We know that in part.

WELKER: But did Trump lose?

COTTON: Biden was elected, Kristen. I mean, obviously, there’s a process by which we elect presidents. There’s votes in November. You have an Electoral College vote, you certify the election, and then you have the inauguration. Joe Biden was elected president. Everything has gone to hell in a handbasket as a result.

WELKER: As you know, though, I mean, it has been stated that this was one of the most secure elections in U.S. history. But do you just not want to say that Trump lost? If Joe Biden is president, can you just simply say Trump lost?

COTTON: Joe Biden was elected president in 2020. That’s why we have runaway inflation. That’s why we have more than 10 million illegals in this country. And to go back to the point about the 2020 election, it was very irregular. You had networks to include this. Networks conspire with big tech to suppress evidence of Biden family corruption. You had Democratic states and cities like Pennsylvania, like Philadelphia changing their election practices on the fly. That’s one reason why President Trump and the Republican National Committee is so focused on election integrity in this election to make sure that Democrats aren’t doing things like they’re trying to do in Pennsylvania and counting absentee and mail in ballots that don’t have dates.

WATCH: Kamala Harris Punts on Questions About Netanyahu — Including Whether He’s a ‘Close Ally’ — In Preview of High-Stakes ’60 Minutes’ Sitdown

By News Here - 12:07

Vice President Kamala Harris, in a new interview, danced around a series of questions about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — including whether she believes the U.S. should consider him a “close ally.”

In an interview with CBS’ Bill Whitaker to air Monday on 60 Minutes (which was previewed on Sunday’s Face the Nation), the vice president was pressed about Netanyahu rebuffing various U.S. calls for deescalation.

“We supply Israel with billions of dollars in military aid,” Whitaker said. “And yet Prime Minister Netanyahu seems to be charting his own course. The Biden-Harris administration has pressed him to agree to a cease fire. He’s resisted. You urged him not to go into Lebanon. He went in anyway. He has promised to make Iran pay for the missile attacks. And that has the potential of expanding the war. Does the U.S. have no sway over Prime Minister Netanyahu?”

Harris responded without mentioning Netanyahu at all.

“The aid that we have given Israel allowed Israel to defend itself against 200 ballistic missiles that were just meant to attack the Israelis and the people of Israel,” Harris said. “And when we think about the threat that Hamas, Hezbollah presents Iran, I think that it is without any question, our imperative to do what we can to allow Israel to defend itself against those kinds of attacks. Now, the work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles, which include the need for humanitarian aid, the need for this war to end, the need for a deal to be done, which would release the hostages and create a ceasefire. And we’re not going to stop in terms of putting that pressure on Israel and in the region, including Arab leaders.”

Whitaker pressed Harris to comment specifically on Netanyahu.

“But it seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening,” Whitaker said.

Harris again did not mention the prime minister.

“Well Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things — including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.” Harris said.

The 60 Minutes correspondent tried one more time.

“Do we have a real close ally in Netanyahu?” Whitaker asked.

“I think, with all due respect, the better question is do we have an important alliance between the American people and the Israeli people,” Harris said — again dodging. “And the answer to that question is yes.”

The 60 Minutes interview with Whitaker is a high-stakes showdown for Harris — who has not often engaged with national journalists since launching her bid for the presidency. She is slated to ramp up her media presence this week by participating in a series of interviews with various entertainment hosts including; Howard Stern, Stephen Colbert, and Call Her Daddy podcast host Alex Cooper. But her sitdown with Whitaker represents only the second solo interview she has done with a national news journalist since President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 race. The other, conducted by MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle on Sept. 27, was dismissed by some critics as a non-confrontational interview on a partisan outlet.

Former President Donald Trump declined 60 Minutes interview request for the broadcast airing Monday. For decades, with few exceptions, both presidential candidates have appeared on the show in the weeks leading up to the election.

CNN’s Smerconish Presses James Carville on 2024 Race by Citing His Old Phrase: ‘If It’s the Economy, Stupid, Why Isn’t Harris Ahead?’

By News Here - 12:07

CNN’s Michael Smerconish recalled James Carville’s famed catchphrase Saturday morning when he asked the architect of Bill Clinton’s 1992 election victory why Democrats are not running away with the race if the economy is strong.

Friday’s jobs report showed 254,000 jobs were added while unemployment was at a healthy 4.1 percent. Meanwhile, numbers have continued to indicate inflation is cooling.

Still, polling has shown Vice President Kamala Harris has not pulled away from former President Donald Trump, while the former president is actually ahead in some surveys in key battleground states.

On CNN’s Smerconish Saturday morning, the host welcomed Carville on to discuss the November election and reminded the veteran Democratic strategist of his utterance of one of the most famed statements in politics.

In 1992, Carville said bluntly of elections, “It’s the economy, stupid.”

Smerconish asked Saturday, “James, big jobs report yesterday, robust stock market, declining interest rates, tamed inflation, if it’s the economy, stupid, why isn’t Harris ahead?”

Carville reminded the host that there are still more than four weeks until the election and predicted that either Harris or Trump would catch momentum between now and then. He said:

Well, first of all, you forgot to drop in crime rate, which is really impressive. You know, she’s slightly ahead in this not the election. These things tend to break one way or the other at the end. There are seven swing states. The least likely result is they break 4-3. But I can’t stop the commentariat from saying it’s going to be neck and neck and it’s going to come down to this. I think it will break at the end, I think someone will carry swing states 5-2 or 6-1. Whoever does that will do well in the House and do well in the Senate. But this is this thing is a long way from decided.

Judge Savages ‘Charlatan’ Pro-Trump Election Official Sentenced to Nine Years In Prison: ‘You Lie As Easy As It Is For You To Breath’

By News Here - 12:08

Judge Matthew Barrett pulled no punches when sentencing former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peterson Thursday after she was convicted on seven felony counts for election tampering during the 2020 election.

Peters, a pro-Trump Republican and one-time hero of the MAGA right, continued to push the roundly debunked claim that voter fraud caused Donald Trump to lose re-election in 2020. “I’ve never done anything with malice to break the law. I’ve only wanted to serve the people of Mesa County,” Peters told the court as she sparred with Judge Barrett throughout the trial.

Peters was indicted in March 2022 and convicted in August for her role in allowing an unauthorized person, later linked to MyPillow’s Mike Lindell, to tamper with election equipment during the 2020 presidential election while serving as Mesa County’s Clerk and Recorder.

Peters’s conviction stemmed from her participation in a plot to break into election machines under her supervision and copy data from them to prove fraud — instead voter information from the machines appeared online in August 2021, published in part by QAnon-affiliated conspiracy theorists like Ron Watkins.

Barrett slammed Peters for continuing to promote the false election claims during the trial and accused her of betraying her oath of office for celebrity. “Your reputation at this point is poor because of what you’ve done here and after. Your lies are well documented and these convictions are serious,” he began, adding:

I’m convinced you would do it all over again if you could. You’re as defiant as a defendant as this court has ever seen. There are many things in my mind that are crystal clear about this case. You are no hero. You abused your position and you’re a charlatan who used and is still using your prior position in office to peddle a snake oil that’s been proven to be junk time and time again.

This is nonsense! Our system of government can’t function when people in government think that somehow, someway, the power they’ve been given is absolute in all respects. And that’s where you fell. You have no respect for the checks and balances of government. You have no respect for this court. You have no respect for law enforcement. At the end of the day, you cared about the jets, the podcast and the people fawning over you.

You abdicated your position as a servant to the Constitution and you chose you over all else. Yes, you are a charlatan and you cannot help but lie as easy it is for you to breath.
