Saturday Night Live returned for season 47 last night, and Weekend Update took a moment to pay tribute to the late, great Norm Macdonald.
Macdonald is considered by many to be one of the best Weekend Update hosts, if not the best, in the show’s decades-long run. He famously made a lot of jokes about O.J. Simpson and, after Simpson was acquitted in 1995, Macdonald kicked off the segment by memorably saying, “Well, it is finally official. Murder is legal in the state of California.”
It’s been reported over the years that Macdonald was ultimately fired from SNL because of just how many jokes he made about Simpson.
Michael Che and Colin Jost talked about his tragic passing last month, with Jost saying, “Norm is the reason that I ever wanted to do Weekend Update.”
“Tonight we thought we’d turn the last few jokes of Update over to Norm.”
They proceeded to show some of Macdonald’s best moments from his time hosting Weekend Update.
And yes, they included an O.J. joke.
You can watch above, via NBC.
