During his Monday night show on Fox News, Tucker Carlson railed against wearing masks outdoors and told viewers to “call the police immediately” if they see children doing so. He also said seeing vaccinated people wear masks outside is like “watching a grown man expose himself in public.”

After declaring, “The only people who wear masks outside are zealots and neurotics,” Carlson urged his viewers to approach people they see wearing masks outdoors to ask them “politely but firmly” to remove their masks.

Things got even weirder – and potentially more dangerous – when Carlson instructed his viewers to call the police and child protective services if they see children wearing masks outdoors.

As for forcing children to wear masks outside, that should be illegal. Your response when you see children wearing masks as they play should be no different from your response to seeing someone beat a kid in Walmart. Call the police immediately, contact child protective services. Keep calling until someone arrives. What you’re looking at is abuse, it’s child abuse and you are morally obligated to attempt to prevent it.

If it’s your own children being abused, then act accordingly. Let’s say your kids school emailed you and announced that every day after lunch, your sixth-grader was going to get punched in the face by a teacher. How would you respond to that? That’s precisely how you should respond when they tell you that your kids have to wear masks on the soccer field. That is unacceptable, it is dangerous, and we should act like it because it is. But too few of us have responded like that, we have been shamefully passive in the face of all of this.

It’s unclear how wearing a mask is akin to taking a punch to the face. What is clear is that calling police or child protective services because a kid wears a mask outdoors is ridiculous and a waste of official resources, even if it’s just the dispatcher taking 20 seconds to mock the caller following Carlson’s advice.

Then things got really weird. At the end of an interview with Matt Walsh, the Fox host compared outdoor mask wearing to a man exposing himself in public.

Matt Walsh: I was in Austin a few days ago and I’m walking outside without a mask on and people are staring at me like I’m the crazy one for not having a mask on. Meanwhile if you’re walking outside with a mask on, I should be looking at you, and I do look at you like I would look at a grown man hugging a teddy bear and having a pacifier in his mouth while he’s walking down the street. This is your security blanket. There’s no reason for you to have it on. You’re just afraid. You’re afraid of fresh air. That’s what’s happening. People are afraid to breathe air and we’re making it so that kids are afraid of air too and that’s insane to me.

Tucker Carlson: I agree with you completely. I would even actually up the and say a vaccinated person, someone with the antibodies wearing a mask outside is like watching a grown man expose himself in public. “That’s disgusting, put it away please. We don’t do that here.”
