Don Lemon Loses It Over Old Clip of Manafort Lying on Live TV: ‘That Was Really, Really Awkward!’
Following Michael Cohen‘s admission that President Donald Trump was engaged in talks as recent as June 2016 about the possibility of building Trump Tower Moscow, CNN’s Don Lemon was in stitches during his Thursday night broadcast while airing a montage of clips of claiming the commander in chief has no financial ties to Russia.
“It was not a very public deal and it certainly was not public while Donald Trump was running for president, and that is because Trump never mentioned it,” Lemon pointed out, referring to what’s been dubbed the Moscow project. Lemon emphasized that “despite question after question about any involvement with Russia,” Trump claimed he had “zero investments in Russia.”
Lemon then proceeded to play footage of the numerous instances in which the president contended that he had “nothing to do with Russia,” ending with a clip of former campaign chair Paul Manafort backing him up.
Asked by CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell in the 2016 clip whether Trump has “financial relationships with any Russian oligarchs,” Manafort gave a bumbling response.
“That’s what he said — that’s what — that’s obviously what the — our position is.”
Giggling, Lemon called the moment “just a little awkward,” playing it a second time.
“That was really, really awkward!” Lemon said after it aired again. “I still have no idea what he said there but doesn’t that just sum all of this up, the whole day, just all of it?”
“But as we always say around here, facts matter and as more facts emerge from the Mueller investigation, the real question is what will this president do?”
