Putting his money where his universal basic income campaign policy is, 2020 presidential candidate Andrew Yang plans to announce during the third Democratic debate that he will hold a raffle and then randomly select 10 families to give them $12,000 each over the next year.

Yang will make the announcement at the latest Democratic debate in Houston, Texas, which his campaign qualified to participate in with nine other candidates.

According to Politico reporting, the 44-year-old entrepreneur-turned-politician will announce his plane on the debate stage by highlighting his campaign’s signature policy to give every adult American $1,000 a month, which he calls the “Freedom Dividend.”

The announcement is not just a cash giveaway, it’s also a canny campaign move to draw in more money for the candidate, Politico notes. “The raffle has the potential to bring both attention to his platform and collect new contact information of potential supporters, in addition to the cash.”
